Manchester United transfer news: Gabby George & Irene Guerrero join on deadline day
14 September 2023
Manchester United have signed Everton defender Gabby George for £150,000.
George, 26, leaves Everton after almost 10 years at the club, having previously come through United's academy.
She is United's second transfer deadline day signing after the arrival of Spain international Irene Guerrero from Atletico Madrid.
The 26-year-old midfielder was part of the Spain squad who were crowned champions at this summer's Women's World Cup.
"I am very proud to be part of the Manchester United family and look forward to achieving all our goals together," said Guerrero.
United manager Marc Skinner added: "Irene is a World Cup winner whose quality is an excellent addition to our team.
"The experience she brings, both domestically and internationally, will be key as we pursue success across the multiple competitions."
George, who became the first female player at Everton to sign a professional contract in 2017, made her 100th Women's Super League appearance at Goodison Park when she captained the Toffees in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in March.
"I wouldn't be the player and person I am today if it wasn't for Everton. I will always be incredibly grateful for that," said George.
"Everton will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish the club and the outstanding supporters the very best for this season and beyond."
On her move to Manchester United, George added: "As a massive Manchester United fan, I'm buzzing to be here. It's the club I've supported since I was born, and I'm delighted to come back.
"This club means a lot to me and my family, and it's where we want to be."
