Arsenal have signed ex-France goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi on a short-term deal.

The 37-year-old is a free agent having played with Paris St-Germain last season.

Prior to that she spent 13 years with Lyon, helping the French side to win 11 league titles, eight French Cups and eight UEFA Women’s Champions Leagues.

“I’m delighted to become part of this great club,” she said.

“Arsenal has so much history across both the men’s and women’s teams. I’ve always admired the club.

“I’m excited to get the opportunity to play in a league that is going from strength to strength and I want to bring my experience to help the rest of the squad. I can’t wait to get started.”

Bouhaddi has 149 international caps for France across a distinguished 16-year international career, is her country’s most-capped goalkeeper and was part of the squad that won the SheBelieves Cup in 2017.

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall had been looking for cover in the position with Canadian goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo away at next month’s Concacaf W Gold Cup in the United States.

Bouhaddi is expected to be Arsenal’s final signing in the January transfer window, adding to the arrival of USA defender Emily Fox, who has impressed on her Women’s Super League debut against Liverpool on Sunday.
