Agent of Barcelona stopper Araujo responds to Real Madrid links

The agent of Barcelona star Ronald Araujo has, on Friday, spoken out over surprise links between his client and Real Madrid.

Blancos march on

The latest edition of the historic El Clasico rivalry was of course played out earlier this week.

In the first of two Spanish Super Cup semi-final fixtures, Barca and Real went head to head in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, eyeing a spot in Sunday’s showpiece.

And to say that, when all was said and done, the clash lived up to its billing would be something of an understatement.

A thrilling 5-goal affair ultimately saw Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos emerge victorious, to carry forth a fine 2021/22 campaign to date.

After all of Vinicius Jr, Luuk de Jong, Karim Benzema and Ansu Fati traded goals, the evening’s telling moment was eventually forthcoming deep into injury-time, when Federico Valverde swept home on the back of a superbly-worked counter attack:

‘Wants to continue’

In turn, on the back of their side slipping to a 5th-straight Clasico defeat across all competitions, it is safe to say that the last thing which the Barcelona faithful would have wanted to hear of was one of the club’s star performers being linked with, you guessed it, Real Madrid.

Precisely that, though, was forthcoming this week.

The player tipped for a shock move across the Clasico divide? Ronald Araujo.

Reports stemming from Spain suggested that the board at the Bernabeu are keen to lure stopper Araujo to the capital on a free transfer, upon the expiration of his Barca contract in the summer of 2023.

In turn, speaking to Sport 890 on Friday evening, it came as little surprise when the subject of his client’s links with Real was put to Araujo’s agent, Flavio Perchman.

Perchman, though, was quick to shut down any and all speculation surrounding the possibility of a move to Madrid, assuring that the Uruguayan is ‘very happy’ in Catalunya, and therefore ‘wants to continue’ with Barca:

‘Ronald is a Barcelona player, he has a year and a half left on his contract. I don’t give seriousness to Real Madrid’s interest. He is very happy in Barcelona and wants to continue there.’
