Chelsea to consider free move for former Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha14 June 2022
Chelsea is set to consider multiple options at goalkeeper this summer as the Blues could be prepared to part ways with current backup shot-stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, former Lazio keeper Thomas Strakosha is now on the radar screen at Stamford Bridge for boss Thomas Tuchel as one of a handful of potential options to replace the Spanish international.
Thomas Strakosha’s now attracting interest, available on free transfer. Chelsea are considering him as one of the options, but only in case Kepa will leave the club this summer 🇦🇱 #CFC
Gabriel Slonina, different deal – he’d be one for the future, staying at Chicago Fire on loan.

Any move for Strakosha would be directly linked to the future of Kepa at Chelsea, however, with the 27-year-old far and away the backup option behind Edouard Mendy at Stamford Bridge but still has three years left on his deal that expires in the summer of 2025.
Securing Strakosha’s signature on a free would be smart business for Chelsea, considering their need to bring in vital reinforcements at other areas of the pitch, including center-back after the club have lost of Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen.
With Kepa still in his formative years before his prime, the Blues could secure a decent fee for the former Athletic Club standout, which would only pad their transfer kity under new owner Todd Boehly as they look to secure deals for both Jules Koundé and Ousmane Dembélé.
Strakosha – who has also been linked with interest from Fulham – was first choice in the Italian capital for five of the six years he spent at the Stadio Olimpico and would certainly offer a reliable back up to Mendy in the run up to what could be a tricky season with the impending 2022 World Cup in Qatar set to take place this winter.
Chelsea are also rumored to be interested in United States youth international keeper Gabriel Slonina who has had a breakout last two years with MLS club Chicago Fire despite being the tender age of 18.
Also according to Romano, any deal for Slonina would be one that would not come into play for Chelsea for some time, with Slonina being loaned back to his MLS club should any deal be struct between Chelsea and league representatives.
