Harry Maguire has given his thoughts on new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils and their captain endured a torrid last campaign and they will be hoping for big improvements under their new boss.

Ten Hag arrives at Old Trafford looking to improve upon a sixth-place finish and the club in the Europa League.

He has plenty of work to do with United having just had their worst ever Premier League finish.

Sixth place, 58 points and 35 points off the top represents a disaster for the 19-time EPL champions.

But now, they head into the Erik ten Hag era hoping the Dutch manager can replicate the dynasty which he created at Ajax.

Maguire has spoken about his excitement to work under the new manager and his desire to impress him.

He told the Independent: “We’ve had a really low season so for a new manager to come in, I’m sure the first day of pre-season everybody will be buzzing around, doing their best to impress and everyone coming back in shape because we have a big season ahead of us for sure.

“We know we are going to improve. We’ve got to improve and we’ve got to do better because last season was nowhere near good enough.

“The new manager will bring in a lot of positive energy and the lads will go with that.”

On a personal level, Maguire is coming off the back of one of the toughest seasons of his career.

His performances have been heavily criticised by many over the course of the campaign.

The Man United captain has opened up on how he has handled the level of criticism that he has received.

In his interview with the Independent, he added: “I think it comes through experience.

“If that had happened earlier on in my career, I would’ve struggled that night.

“I don’t want it to happen in the future, but it might.

“I’ve been through ups and downs, captain of Manchester United.

“I know the scrutiny, I know the pressures and it’s something that I’ve learned to deal with.”
