Manchester United & Manchester City to battle for Bayern Munich forward3 July 2022
Manchester United and Manchester City are interested in Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry, according to reports.
The Sun report that Gnabry has turned down a new contract with Bayern Munich worth just over £200,000-a-week.
And whilst the German champions are keen to keep the former Arsenal attacker, who has just 12 months left on his current deal, they will be open to a sale if they cannot reach an agreement.
Bayern would be prepared to cash in for around £35 million, as it is their last chance to command a decent fee for Gnabry.
This has alerted both Manchester United and Manchester City, who are watching the situation closely.
On City’s part, though, it is believed that they would only move for Gnabry should Raheem Sterling, who has been heavily linked with Chelsea, leave the club.
Gnabry’s Bayern Munich stint
Gnabry joined Bayern Munich in 2017 from Werder Bremen.
He has since featured on 171 occasions for the Bundesliga champions, scoring 64 and assisting 40 goals across his appearances.
This past season, meanwhile, saw Gnabry score 17 and assisted 10 in 45 outings, operating largely as a right-winger but also on the left if required.
Said versatility would make him a great purchase for a club like Manchester United, who are pretty short-staffed on both flanks at present.
And at £35m, it is hard to see why the Red Devils would not want to sign someone of Gnabry’s quality. The only issue with such a move, though, would likely be convincing the German to give up Champions League football and consistent silverware.
