Newcastle or even Barcelona? Jesse Lingard’s stance on January Old Trafford exit revealed14 October 2021
A fresh insight into Jesse Lingard’s current mindset at Manchester United has been forthcoming on Thursday afternoon.
The name of English international Lingard of course took centre stage in the media chatter throughout the recently-closed transfer window.
This came with the 28-year-old fresh off the back of something of a career revival over the 2nd half of last season.
After again struggling for game-time over the opening half of the campaign at Old Trafford, Lingard was farmed out on loan to West Ham, with whom he went on to exceed all expectations.
Having been handed the freedom of the Hammers’ ranks in the middle of the park to operate, the creative midfielder quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s standout performers.
All told, he racked up nine goals and four assists across 16 appearances in the colours of West Ham, the kind of form which culminated in a Player and Goal of the Month double back in April:
Jesse Lingard won Premier League Player of the Month for April.
He also won Goal of the Month, for this 😍

Camp Nou bound?
Such stellar exploits, in turn, led to inevitable chatter that Lingard would likely go on to seal another swift departure from Old Trafford in the summer, albeit this time on a permanent basis.
Evidently, however, in the end, such a move failed to come to fruition.
But, as outlined above, on Thursday, a fresh insight into the midfielder’s current stance on his future in Manchester has been forthcoming. And it will no doubt come as a boost to any club hopeful of securing his signature during the January transfer window.
As per a report from David McDonnell of the Mirror, ‘Jesse Lingard is ready to leave Manchester United in January’.
The 28-year-old is said to have become fed up with his lack of game-time over the early weeks of the campaign, having been afforded a paltry total of 45 minutes of action across all competitions.
In turn, with Lingard still hopeful of securing a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for next year’s World Cup, he is aware that the Manchester United chapter of his career will soon need to be brought to a definitive close.
Amongst the clubs expected to express an interest in the Three Lions star’s services in January are Premier League rivals West Ham United and Newcastle United – fresh off the back of a big-money takeover.
Also tipped as more surprising potential destinations by the Mirror, though, are European heavyweights Barcelona and AC Milan.
