Nottingham Forest agree deal to sell Brice Samba

A definitive update on the future of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba has been provided on Monday evening.

And the news, unfortunately for those hopeful of the 28-year-old staying put, points towards Samba being primed for a summer departure from the City Ground.

Recent weeks had of course seen it widely reported that Samba was eyeing a fresh challenge ahead of next season, just months on from playing a starring role in Forest’s return to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs.

This comes with the Congolese understood to have been left altogether underwhelmed by the latest contract renewal offered up by the powers that be at Forest, ahead of the expiration of his current terms in the summer of 2023.

In turn, upon word beginning to spread that the top-flight returnees had closed a deal with Manchester United for the loan signing of Dean Henderson, the writing appeared very much on the wall when it came to Samba’s future.

And, as alluded to above, on Monday, the gifted shot-stopper’s imminent exit has been confirmed.

As per a report from The Athletic, ‘Nottingham Forest and Lens have reached an agreement for the transfer of goalkeeper Brice Samba.’

Samba’s decision to secure a return to France, it is assured, is not financially motivated, but more ‘about respect for his achievements, importance and popularity at the City Ground’.

The transfer, which is expected to be announced over the coming days, is subject to the completion of a routine medical.
