Petr Cech signals Chelsea transfer intent with big summer expected at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea technical and performance advisor Petr Cech has shed light on what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window at Stamford Bridge over the coming weeks.

As reported by Football.London via SkySports and the Metro, the former Blues shot-stopper was not shy when he admitted that Chelsea will be on the go all summer long as they look to close the gap to Manchester City and Liverpool while simultaneously keeping both London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal at bay.

“I live on the phone! It will be a busy summer. We will plan, prepare and try to be as strong as we can next season.”

“I think everybody knows where we are in terms of the team. Of course, we will try to strengthen the team. We want to do the best possible and be ready to compete next season. It’s going to be a tough season with a World Cup in-between so we need to be ready for that.”

This should come as no surprise either given the situation Chelsea finds themselves in this summer, particularly when it comes to the heart of the defense.

Both Antonio Rüdiger and Andreas Christensen have left the club with Rüdiger now on the books at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Questions also persist over star striker Romelu Lukaku as well as German international hitman Timo Werner, while the Blues could also look to strengthen in the center of the park with just three reliable midfield options in N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho, and Mateo Kovačić plying their trade under Tuchel.

But Chelsea has already maneuvered to solve part of the transfer equation this summer after links continue to suggest that they are nearing possible completed deals for French international Jules Koundé as well as Senegalese star Kalidou Koulibaly, though he is expected to hold out for a move to Barcelona.

Chelsea could also turn to RB Leipzig ace Christopher Nkunku after the Saxony-based outfit recently included a lower release clause in his latest deal that is set to end in 2024.

Considering that Tuchel’s men finished a staggering 19-points behind Man City in 2021-22, Chelsea has an enormous amount of work to do this summer if they are to get back on track with pushing for major domestic honors.
