Jake Bidwell: Coventry defender says win over Blackburn must be the standard

Bidwell, restored to the side in place of Jay Dasilva, powerfully headed in his third goal for the club after 11 minutes, before goals from Haji Wright and Brandon Thomas-Asante after the break ended Blackburn’s unbeaten start.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins called his team’s performance “big” and Bidwell agreed.

“Without the ball, that was probably the best we’ve been,” Bidwell said.

“It has to be a platform to build on now.

“There’s things we can obviously do better and improve on but, from an intensity point of view and off the ball, we’ve set our standards now and we can’t drop below them.”

With another home game on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, Bidwell is hoping a corner has been turned after “a tough couple of weeks results-wise”.

“We spoke about these two home games and the chance to build momentum,” he said.

“We’ve shown performances like that can get the crowd involved so we can make this a tough place to come to.”
