Curtis Nelson: Derby County’s first away win of season ‘massive’

Jerry Yates had a huge influence on the win, pouncing on some poor Coventry defending to score the opener before going on to force the own goal that eventually decided the result.

Victory moves Derby three points clear of Coventry and up to 13th in the table after 14 matches.

Rams boss Paul Warne was pleased to collect all three points on their travels for the first time this term, having picked up just two points from a possible 21 away from Pride Park before Tuesday.

“I think all our performances have had merits, we have competed against the best teams and have picked points off some, not as many as I would have liked, but I’m realistic.

“I have to give massive credit to the lads. Sometimes hard work and grit gets you a bit of luck.”
