Queens Park Rangers 1-4 Ipswich Town: Tractor Boys thrash Rs

Marcelino Nunez scored his first Ipswich Town goals from two free-kicks as they thrashed Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

It was a comprehensive performance from the Tractor Boys, who took an early lead through George Hirst, in also claiming a double, and didn’t really look back.

QPR did go in at half-time level thanks to Rumarn Burrell but were outclassed in the second half.

Ipswich move up to ninth in the Championship, while QPR sit 13th.

Hirst’s first goal came inside two minutes. Sindre Walle Egeli beat Esquerdinha to the byline on the right flank and clipped the ball across for the striker to head home inside the six-yard box.

But Rangers hit back 18 minutes later as Ilias Chair was afforded space to drive forward before unleashing a low shot which Christian Walton parried into Burrell’s path and he applied the finish.

Ipswich began to assert themselves again before half-time, and Jaden Philogene squandered a good chance, volleying over after a corner was poorly cleared. He then cut inside and shot straight at Paul Nardi.

Richard Kone forced Walton into action after he robbed Dara O’Shea and shot low across goal from the left hand corner of the box.

The second half begun like the first, with a quickfire Ipswich goal. Nunez bent a wonderful free-kick into the top right corner, with Nardi potentially at fault due to the ball going in on his side, with the wall protecting the other.

Hirst cemented the visitors’ lead on 55 minutes, heading Darnell Furlong’s cross in at the back post.

Jimmy Dunne headed over almost instantly as the Rs looked to respond, but the game became stretched as Nunez tested Nardi from distance at the other end.

Just the past the hour mark, Nunez added his second from a free-kick in an almost identical position. It deflected off the wall and wrapped up a big win for Ipswich.
