Charlton Athletic have made their first signing since winning promotion to the Championship by bringing in Blackpool midfielder Sonny Carey.

The 24-year-old moves to The Valley on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with the Seasiders, having agreed a three-year contract.

Carey joined Blackpool from non-league King’s Lynn in 2021 and scored 11 goals in 37 appearances for Steve Bruce’s side last season.

Alex Gilbert: Charlton Athletic sign Middlesbrough attacker on loan

Charlton Athletic have signed Alex Gilbert on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder, who is a former Republic of Ireland youth international, is the first player to move to the Addicks during the winter transfer window.
