Diogo Jota death: Liverpool forward dies in car crash along with his brother

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a car crash, aged 28.

The Portugal forward’s brother Andre Silva also died in the accident, which took place in the Spanish province of Zamora.

The 25-year-old was also a professional footballer, with Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel.

The Guardia Civil has told BBC Sport that Jota and his brother died at about 00:30 local time on Thursday.

Graeme Carrick joins brother Michael at Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have appointed Graeme Carrick as first-teach coach.

The 39-year-old is the younger brother of Boro first-team coach Michael Carrick and has spent the past two years in charge of Newcastle’s Under-18 side.

He first joined Newcastle in 2005 after his playing career was cut short by injury, and returned to the club in 2022 after 15 years working for the Football Association.
