Manchester United, currently £1bn in debt, are yet to say how they plan to pay for the stadium.
It will form part of a wider regeneration of the Old Trafford area, predicted to be the biggest such project in the United Kingdom since the transformation of the Stratford area that accompanied the 2012 Olympics in London. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has already given government backing to the plans.

Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown has revealed the club are “not close” to a potential takeover or new investment.
Lansdown’s comments come two and a half years on from when he first discussed the idea of selling Bristol City for the “right deal” which could end his 28-year affiliation with his hometown club.
In his first interview with BBC Radio Bristol since April 2023, Lansdown detailed why a purchase for
Dutch defender Tyrell Malacia is close to joining PSV Eindhoven on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.
Malacia, 25, returned to action for the Premier League club in November following 17 months out with injury issues.
The Netherlands international signed for United from Feyenoord for £13m on a four-year contract in July 2022.
The transfer window does not close in the Netherlands until Tuesday.

MLS side Atlanta United are set to sign Middlesbrough striker Emmanuel Latte Lath for a fee of $28m (£22.5m).
The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international has scored 27 goals in 59 Championship appearances since joining from Swiss side St Gallen in August 2023.
It is understood that Latte Lath has always been Atlanta’s first choice in this transfer window despite also having interest in Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Edouard and Benfica’s Arthur
Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is close to completing a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, sources have confirmed to BBC Sport.

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Palmeiras’ teenage defender Vitor Reis.
