Opta Premier League team of the season: Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, William Saliba, Alexander Isak

Possibly the easiest choice of all time for a player’s inclusion in a statistical team of the season, Salah enjoyed one of the finest individual seasons in Premier League history. Many of his astonishing records from 24-25 may not be beaten for many years.

The Egyptian was involved in 47 Premier League goals (29 goals, 18 assists), a record in a 38-game campaign to overtake the 44 goal and assist

William Saliba (Arsenal), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) and Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool): Three exceptional centre-backs and leaders – it’s not necessarily about picking captains but figureheads from a defensive point of view. The team will only be as good as these three guys defend. Van Dijk obviously won the league, and signed a new Liverpool deal. In my opinion, he’s the best centre-back in world football. Konsa is growing

Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk says Trent Alexander-Arnold exit won’t overshadow Premier League title celebration

Sunday’s jeers were mixed with cheers from other supporters, with Alexander-Arnold’s team-mate of eight years, Andy Robertson, telling Sky Sports it was “not nice” to hear the boos.

Van Dijk, who signed a two-year contract last month, said all of the Liverpool players need to move on and focus on the final two games of the season.

“The [crowd] reaction happened,” Van Dijk said. “He has to deal with it.

Van Dijk joined Willem II’s then-acclaimed academy in 2001 as a 10-year-old.

It was a club that had defied the odds just a few years earlier by finishing second in the Eredivisie in 1998-99 and reaching the Champions League.

Shortly after his arrival, Jan van Loon was installed as academy director.

“There was actually no striker who stood a chance against him,” Van Loon said. “He was physically strong and

“Since I joined the club, he has been a fantastic player and there’s a lot of good things that he will always be remembered for if he decides to leave,” said Van Dijk.

“Whatever may happen in the future for him, that’s something he has to resolve with himself and the family.

“But he’s a Liverpool player at this point and he’s important for our team.”

‘Slot’s Liverpool will evolve, but he can build with Salah & Van Dijk’

It looks as if Slot is going to win the Premier League in his first season, although until last weekend’s results I actually was not too confident about that, despite Liverpool’s lead at the top of the table.

The team have looked exhausted in recent weeks, with lack of rotation one of the reasons for that.

It felt as if there was far more trust in the squad in the

Virgil van Dijk: Liverpool captain signs new deal

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 33-year-old centre-back’s previous contract had been set to expire at the end of the season.

But the Dutchman has joined forward Mohamed Salah, who signed a two-year extension last week, in committing his future to the club.

“It was always Liverpool,” said Van Dijk, who had been linked with a move to Paris St-Germain.

“That

Sandro Tonali (Newcastle): Since he has come back from his ban, the Italian has been frightening. He has been looking like one of the best midfielders in European football. He has everything to his game – he can run, can score, can tackle and his run and finish for the goal was excellent against Manchester United.

Tyler Adams (Bournemouth): This is someone who won’t get a lot of credit

Liverpool 2-1 West Ham United: Virgil van Dijk scores late winner for Reds

This was the first Liverpool game since Salah extended his stay at Anfield, and the home supporters made sure to make their Egyptian king feel loved.

Before kick-off, the stadium announcer named the Liverpool XI in positional order rather than numerical, meaning Salah’s name was read out last – allowing the fans to give him an especially large cheer.

And once the game started Salah, who had failed to score

Van Dijk re-signing would ease one of the key recruitment issues facing the club heading into the summer.

Should the 33-year-old have left, Liverpool were likely to enter the market for a new starting central defender.

Recruitment staff had already begun identifying potential targets, who are primarily left-footed or have experience of playing left-sided centre-back.

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi was among those analysed, but the extent of the interest
