Coventry City 2-1 Hull City: Mason-Clark stars as Lampard’s men win

The first half was largely dominated by Coventry until two minutes before the break when Abu Kamara’s cross to the far post found Ryan Longman, whose close range header came back off the upright, only for Pedro to bury the rebound from eight yards for his third goal in nine games.

Given Hull’s away record against Coventry, having won and drawn two of their previous eight visits to the stadium, it looked bleak for the Sky Blues, who were booed off by some home fans at half-time.

But Coventry responded on 52 minutes when Tats Sakamoto delivered a quality ball in from the right and Mason-Clark slid in at the far post to bravely get his head on it where it hurts, for his third goal in four games under Lampard.

The Sky Blues should have been ahead when Charlie Hughes’ challenge on Norman Bassette inside the box was punished with both a booking and a spotkick. But it was a poor penalty, saved by keeper Ivor Pandur, diving low to his left.

The hosts then could have been behind when Mason Burstow bent in a shot with the outside of his right boot which looked destined for the bottom corner, only to be denied by a great save from Coventry keeper Brad Collins.

But, on 72 minutes, Mason-Clark went down the left, beat two men, dragged it on to his right foot and, from his right-wing cross, Rudoni steered his header back past the Hull keeper for his third goal of the season.
