Midfielder George Saville and goalkeeper Liam Roberts are to leave Millwall at the end of the month after both failed to agree a new contracts with the club.

Saville made almost 250 appearances for the Lions across four spells and last rejoined the club in July 2021 from Middlesbrough.

The 32-year-old Northern Ireland international played in 45 out of 46 of the club’s Championship matches in 2024-25, scoring one goal.

Saville said in a statement that the decision came “with a heavy heart”.

He added: “I didn’t think this day would come so soon but that’s football and I’m looking forward to my next chapter. I’ll be supporting you guys from a distance.”

Saville first moved to the Den in 2013 aged 19 on loan from Chelsea and again on loan from Wolves in 2015, before making the move permanent two years later.

He transferred to Middlesbrough in 2018 for what was then a club-record fee, before returning to Millwall three summers ago.

“We offered George a new deal that reflected the role we saw for him moving forward, but in the end, we couldn’t quite reach an agreement,” said director of football Steve Gallan.

“We completely respect his decision and wish him nothing but success wherever he goes next.”
